Spring 2026: Nourishing our future

Childminders do extraordinary things from ordinary kitchens, providing meals, encouraging curiosity and helping children build lifelong positive relationships with food. But the food landscape is changing and with that, children’s experiences of food are changing. Dr Kay Aaronricks, Associate Professor and Head of School, Education, ARU explores food and nutrition as a fundamental element of early years childminding provision, supported by the experiences of childminders who took part in the Nourishing Our Future (NOF) research project in Essex. Amit Singh Kalley, founder of For Working Parents, is back to support our understanding of dangerous apps. Penny Tassoni talks about how thoughtful positive recognition helps child thrive. Donna Hill, head of Coram Life Education discusses how SCARF supports social and emotional learning in the early years. As part of our mental health and wellbeing series, we consider how supporting your musculoskeletal health can ease the strain. Childminders showcase how they support children’s key motor skills for early writing success and share their experience of the Japanese art form of Hapa Zome.
