Do you know how to safeguard and protect children?
If you work with children, you have a responsibility to help to protect them. You must be aware of your roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, child protection and the welfare of children. Children are vulnerable and rely on adults to help them to feel safe and secure. You have a responsibility to ensure that children are able to grow and develop in a safe and stimulating environment.

Wales

England
Annex C: Criteria for effective safeguarding training sets out the minimum requirements for effective safeguarding training, helping providers know what they must be looking for in a safeguarding course and also what information a course must contain. Requiring a training renewal period of every two years strengthens safety.
We have developed two courses that meet the criteria for effective safeguarding training outlined in Annex C of the EYFS:
Safeguarding children for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)
This course has been designed for DSLs, and meets all the criteria for effective safeguarding training outlined in Annex C of the EYFS. In every setting, a practitioner must be designated to take lead responsibility for safeguarding children. In childminding settings, the childminder is the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Price: Members £15.99 or Non-Members £25.90.
Safeguarding children for staff
Specifically designed for early years staff (including childminder assistants, nursery workers, nannies etc.). This training fulfils part one and two of the criteria for effective safeguarding training outlined in Annex C of the EYFS.
Price: Members £9.99 or Non-Members £19.99.
***Please note that these courses are being updated to include the changes to the safeguarding and welfare requirement that come into effect on 1 September 2026.***
Remember that the EYFS says: “Training must be renewed every two years. Childminders/Providers may consider whether they and any assistants/staff need to undertake annual refresher training during any two-year period to help maintain basic skills and keep up to date with any changes to safeguarding procedures or as a result of any safeguarding concerns that occur in the setting.”

About our Safeguarding children courses (England)
The content of these course has been reviewed by a NCFE subject specialist demonstrating the quality and rigor and we have achieved NCFE’s ‘Cache Endorsed Programme’ status for all the content for both courses.
Learners will have the opportunity to watch video clips, download resources, reflect on their practice, read practical examples, and check their understanding. The information, extra information links and activities provided are designed to offer practical ideas to promote further thinking/reflective practice about safeguarding children.
After completing a quiz at the end of each part and an evaluation survey, learners will be able to download a certificate of completion.
