Development grant in Wales

Thanks to a donation from the Moondance Foundation and Welsh Government funding childminders, childminder assistants, approved nannies, nursery managers or nursery workers in Wales who join Coram PACEY or renew their membership between the 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026 will have the opportunity to apply for a grant to support continuous professional development (cpd)/training opportunities in addition to the wider small grant scheme offered.   

Coram PACEY Cymru are providing a discount on membership for eligible members in Wales from April 2025 to March 2026 too. 

For childminder members this will be up to the value of £350

For childminder assistants, approved nannies, and nursery workers and managers this will be up to the value of £150

About the grant

The aim of the grant is to support eligible Coram PACEY members with continuous professional development/training opportunities that support their practice, business sustainability and improve outcomes for children in their care.

Who can apply?

Members of Coram PACEY who join or renew the following types of membership between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026.

  • Practitioner or Practitioner Plus members
  • Practitioner Assistant members (ie childminder assistants and nursery workers)
  • Manager or Manager Plus members
Who can't apply?

The following are not eligible:

  • Nanny Practitioner or Practitioner Plus members not on CIW’s approval scheme
  • Coram PACEY Learner members
  • Quality Partner members
I have applied for the separate ‘grant i blant’ small grant scheme from Coram PACEY Cymru in Wales can I apply for this too?

Yes, you can apply for both grants and potentially be successful under both schemes.  

When can I apply?

If you renew or join Coram PACEY between 1 April 2025 and the 31 March 2026 you are able to apply for this funding and complete the grant application form.     

The grant window will open on the 12 January and close on the 12 February. 

How much can I apply for?

Childminder Practitioner or Practitioner Plus members can each apply for up to £350

Manager/Manager Plus members can each apply for up to £150 per membership.

Nanny Practitioner or Practitioner Plus members who are on CIW’s approval scheme can apply for up to £150

Practitioner Assistant members (ie childminder assistants and nursery workers) can apply for up to £150

What can the grant be used for?

The focus of this grant is to support continuous professional development opportunities for members that support their practice, business sustainability and improve outcomes for children in their care.  This grant is to support costs for cpd/training that is not provided/funded within a local authority area or available free of charge through other partners or schemes. We need to ensure there is not any replication of funding available from other sources. 

You will need to demonstrate on your application the clear need and impact of the cpd/training you are seeking funding for. You will also need to ensure the cpd/training you are applying for is suitable for those working in Wales. 

Grants will be considered for cpd/training that supports in the following priority areas: 

  • Business development 
  • Eco/environmental practice 
  • Anti-racist practice 
  • Safety and compliance 
  • Leadership and management 
  • IT (including digital skills, cyber security and use of AI) 
  • Child development 
  • Well-being 
  • Supporting children with ALN 
  • Welsh language development 

We are happy to have informal discussions with members to discuss proposals to be included in applications before submission. 

What cannot be funded?

What cannot be funded? 

This application should not duplicate any other funding or income the service is in in receipt of or can access. Each application will be considered on an individual basis, however costs relating to the following will not be funded: 

 

 

  • Safeguarding training costs where there is suitable, fully funded local provision available. 

 

  • First aid training costs where there is suitable, fully funded local provision available. 

 

  • Food hygiene training costs where there is suitable, fully funded local provision available. 
  • IHC/PCP training 
I am not an approved nanny, can I still apply?

No, only Nanny Practitioner or Practitioner Plus members who are on CIW’s approval scheme can apply.   

I am not currently a member of Coram PACEY can I apply?

The grant is only available to Coram PACEY members. 

Please see our Coram PACEY Membership packages to join Coram PACEY and then be eligible to apply for the grant. Coram PACEY Cymru are pleased to announce that through a generous donation from The Moondance Foundation and additional funding from Welsh Government we are able to provide a discount on funded membership for eligible members in Wales from April 2025 to March 2026.

How do I apply?

If you renew or join Coram PACEY between 1 April 2025 and the 31 March 2026 you are able to apply for this funding and complete the grant application form.

The grant window will open on the 12 January and close on the 12 February.

Please read the grant declaration and terms and conditions carefully and ensure you have completed all sections of the form providing clear information, itemised details, and costs.

The grant application must be received by the 12 February 2026. For those due to renew their membership after the application window we are inviting applications in advance that will be processed and if successful will be paid after membership renewal is confirmed.

Please do not incur any costs until your application has been agreed.

If you are notified of your successful application any agreed costs for cpd/training costs will need to be incurred (with relevant receipts retained) by the end of March.

 

How is my application processed?

On receipt of your application Coram PACEY Cymru will check it is complete and meets agreed eligibility criteria.

Applications will be processed through Coram PACEY Cymru’s grant panel and you will be notified of the outcome by the end of February. Please note we will not be able to approve all grants received and success will depend on the strength of individual applications.

If your application is approved Coram PACEY Cymru will confirm this with you by email.

You will need at this point to confirm acceptance of the grant by email and provide your bank details for the funding to be received.

Please do not incur any costs until your application has been agreed as these will not be accepted.

If you are notified of your successful application any agreed costs for cpd/training costs will need to be incurred (with relevant receipts retained) by the end of March.

If you need to make changes following approval please contact Coram PACEY Cymru as soon as possible to discuss.

 

How and when will I be paid?

Once your application has been approved and acceptance of the grant received, PACEY Cymru will make a BACS payment within 28 days to the bank account details provided in your acceptance email.

 

What monitoring and evaluation is undertaken?

You will need to keep all receipts in line with your grant application.

Coram PACEY Cymru will not be asking for these to be returned routinely as evidence.However all receipts must be kept available for Coram PACEY Cymru to make checks for auditing purposes as and when required and you may be contacted to provide these.

Coram PACEY Cymru may contact you to support the production of case studies and evidence around the use of funding and how this has benefitted your service and the children in your care.
