Are you currently using Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax? We want to hear from you. 

Coram PACEY has launched a new survey to understand how the introduction of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is affecting childminders. Your feedback will help us build a clear picture of the challenges and opportunities MTD is creating, and strengthen our work with HMRC, to improve support for the childminding sector. 

Why is your feedback important? 

Coram PACEY is urging HMRC to consider the impact of MTD on childminders – particularly the removal of the long-standing 10% wear and tear allowance. 

In our previous survey, childminders told us they were worried about the additional financial and administrative pressures of MTD. More than half of respondents told us these changes could make them consider leaving the profession altogether. 

Now, we want to hear from childminders who are actively using MTD. Your real-life experiences will help us highlight what’s working, identify where support is needed, and make the case for improvements. 

Who can take this survey? 

This survey is for UK childminders who are currently using Making Tax Digital software to report their income and expenditure.  

Please do not complete the survey if you are not yet using MTD. 

If possible, we recommend completing the 5–minute survey after you’ve submitted your first MTD return, as some questions ask about the financial impact of the changes and will be easier to answer once you’ve completed the process. 

What comes next?  

Coram PACEY is working closely with HMRC to share childminders’ experiences and evidence the real impact of MTD. The findings from this survey will help inform our discussions and support our calls for better guidance and practical support. 

As more childminders come into scope for MTD over the coming years, it’s essential that the system works for the sector. Your feedback can help shape future improvements and ensure the voices of childminders are heard. 

We’ll also continue to provide resources and guidance to help you prepare for and navigate Making Tax Digital.
